KMail 1.1.99 came with KDE 2.0 or did you get KMail 1.2 from the beta?
There was a problem with pop3 in KDE 2.0 on a few Microsoft powered servers,
that seemed to have some trouble with the TCP/IP protocol, but since your
server is running Redhat...
KMail only checks the "+OK" or the "-ERR".
I would recommend to upgrade to at least KDE 2.0.1 (the fix was in kdebase)
and try again. If that doesn't help a test account would be helpful.
