Hi.

When I leave my office for home, I compress my mailfolders, copy them to
a floppy and uncompress them at home. The same when I go from home
to the office, and of course I use a shellscript to do this.

Sometimes I forget to close the mailclient at the office, so when I come
back next day, it may happen that I uncompress the newer inbox file
over the older inboxfile, while Kmail still is pointed to that file.

When I used the mailclient of Netscape, I even could fetch new messages
from the popserver, although the files that were added 'at home' were not
visible untill I exited Netscape and re-entered it.

Using Kmail, I find that my inboxfile is completely corrupted (yes, there
was some Microsoft-stuff in the mail, there mostly is. It looked like Kmail
was finding message-separators in the mime-parts, matched them with
the entries in the index-file and threw away the rest).

I hope that this helps.
