I had this problem happen about a week ago.  I thought it was a different bug. But, \
it's exactly as described here. KMail 1.9.4. The index file(s) may get corrupted \
because when shutting down computer from KDE it does not let some of the processes \
finish normally (they may be just "killed"). I notice this with KNode: when shutting \
down I can see a window with flashing "Deleting expired articles from <newsgroup>" \
(or something like it), but not all newsgroups are reported. Seems like the processes \
just gets interrupted. Same thing may happen with KMail. \
