I hope that somebody is still listening to this thread - otherwise I will reopen a \
new one. I have the same problem with 

kmail 1.8.3.
Debian Linux 2.6.14
kde 3.4.

Since two weeks I am no longer able to access my IMAP folders.
Unfortunately I am not able to tell you what was leading to this problem - maybe an \
upgrade of several kde components.

I am able to provide you with an IMAP server where you can try to analyse this.

please request imap server information from peter at p-simon.de
