Personally I would be very happy to have a "search filter" field in a toolbar like \
the one provided in mozilla mail.  This works by filtering the message list for the \
currently displayed folder based on whether the entered text appears in the subject \
or sender headers.  It serves most of my search needs, is very space efficient, very \
time efficient to use and is one of the main reasons I still use mozilla over kmail.  \
(The other reason is the quality of IMAP support.) \
