Summary: kmail fails silently when it should send mail and the
user hasn't set his own mail addres and name
           Product: kmail
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kmail-devel@kde.org
        ReportedBy: holger-kde@holgis.net

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.94)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

Hi,

this is what i did:

start up a kmail instance as a newly created user. don't start a whole kde as that \
user, but only su - username and as that user start a kmail. then configure kmail:
do not configure anything in the identities settings, leave them blank as they are.

only configure the receiving and sending tabs in network.
(i configured sending to require authentication...)
then try to send a mail to somebody. it silently fails.
the only thing that happens is that in the kmail statusbar it says:
Sending (some) mail failed. or something like that.

then i added a name and an email address in the identities setting dialog, and after \
that sending of a mail worked.

so i would like it, if kmail wouldn't silently fail in this case, but pop up an error \
dialog box saying something like this:

"I could not send this mail, because you have not yet set your name and your email \
address in the settings dialog under identities. Please do so and then send this mail \
again."

thx, Holger
