I partially agree. Why doesn't the configure script say anything about the qt 
version. There are other libraries it is very strict about!
The other side is that it takes quite some time to compile qt as well. (see 
other mail about the time it takes to compile...)

You are absolutely right here. Some time ago it was possible to get the latest 
kde snapshots precompiled by adrian@suse.de 
(ftp.suse.com/pub/people/adrian/KDE-CVS-BUILD/*). But since a couple of 
months he stopped providing them (since 2002-08-13). No idea why.
