IMO, PGP/MIME and S/MIME should be treated equal when designing UIs.
They have lots in common (I believe the mime structure viewer makes
sense for both) and it is yet not clear whether one method will outflank the
other. Probably, both will play a role in the future.
However, right now PGP users surely outnumber S/MIME users by a factor
of 1000 or more - so I don't think we will see drastic changes in the
next 12 or 24 month.
