In my case and in the case of the guy reporting on kde-cvs the folder
 was really eaten. I had to restore the backup made the day before, but
 still lost one day's mail in the process. (Also with IMAP - with mbox
 at home I never had any problems.)

I never use the stop button and still experience crashes. Interval mail
checking and multiple selection just don't go together and there is
 nothing you can do about it for now except disabling the interval
 check.
