From: ser () germane-software ! com
Date: 2002-02-26 22:29:33
[Download RAW message or body]
Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.9.2
Severity: normal
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified
I use KMail to connect to a Courier-IMAP server. KMail is normally pretty hard on \
CPU and memory, but I recently noticed this. It would be funny, if it wasn't so \
absurd. Please note that KMail had only been runnig for about an hour; possibly \
less. My inbox has 100-200 messages in it at any given time. I have about 30 folders \
on the server, and 10 on my local machine. The folling is a snip from 'top':
Mem: 513904K av, 503772K used, 10132K free, 0K shrd, 11340K buff
Swap: 136512K av, 136484K used, 28K free 49648K cached
PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND
15263 ser 9 0 417M 334M 12632 S 0.0 66.7 41:12 kmail
2202 root 9 0 104M 31M 1384 S 1.0 6.3 149:07 X
Notice that KMail is using 417 *megs* of ram, or four times as much as X.
I was wondering why kswapd was sitting at the top of the process list.
BTW, KMail didn't crash; I exited it. I'm not sure what other debugging info I can \
send to you. That magnitude of memory leak/usage is pretty scary.
