OS/Compiler notes: 

when selecting "compact all folders on exit" and replacing the mail folders of kmail \
with older versions of compressed mail folders (from some earlier kmail backup), \
kmail will create new folders again, ignoring the replaced folders. after unzipping \
the folders with gunzip, it accepts them normally.

in general, there should be some function implemented to import older kmail-backups \
or mailboxes to reintegrate them in the current mailbox.
