What do you think about an online repository somewhere on kde.org that 
contains all of these contributed .desktop files with a browse (and search?) 
GUI in the ebrowsing kcmodule? With this, it'd also be easy to provide 
updates for the default shortcuts when the URL changes...

Oh wait, maybe we should have a more general online-update/extension API for 
little extensions like .desktop files (maybe also updates for kappfinder 
defaults), icon themes, sound themes, knewsticker-URLs/scripts :) useragent 
names, "global" themes (configuration-sets for kpersonalizer?), <insert other 
ideas here>

Unless I'm the only one to consider something like that useful, I'd think 
some more about a simple API and protocol for it.
