That's what the checkboxes in the statusbar are for.
If you don't want the right view to follow the sidebar, uncheck the checkbox
of that view.

Your idea (only current view follows sidebar) would work great with the 
sidebar (since it's a passive view, it can never be the current view) ...
but it wouldn't work with the 'preview profile', where two non-passive views
follow each other...
