Subject: Bug#2177: when kfm can't list a directory

Hi
I regularly alternate hdc between a ext2fs drive and a Windows drive,
mounted as /bkup and /dos respectively.
I have a kfm window open by default when starting kde.
I closed down the last session with the current kfm directory at
/dos/Windows, switched the Windows drive for the Linux drive and
rebooted. When kfm started up, it displayed an error window saying "Could
not list directory contents file:/dos/Windows". The same thing occurs with
the Windows drive in place but its file system not mounted.
The error window offers no choice other than "cancel", so I clicked on
"cancel". kfm shut down and all desktop icons disappeared, leaving only
the background, status bar, and toolbar. Clicking the "X" in the top
right-hand corner of the error window has the same effect.
"Reload" did not bring the icons back. Trying to restart kfm didn't work
either.
I suggest either defaulting to ~/ on error, or adding a button to the error
window whose function might be "Enter another directory to list".
I'm using Mandrake 6.0, kernel 2.2.9 (they call it "2.2.9-27mdk") as well
as Suse 6.2, kernel 2.2.10.
I don't know a command that shows the libc version. The Suse manual says
glibc, aka libc6, version 2.1.
