Okay.  I know this very well as I ( or rather you) got several bug reports
regarding the "short URL" support I added.  I will simply go ahead and post
the patch to my web site on AS IS basis i.e patch will not make it into
1_1_BRANCH.  And I think this should allow us to close bug #1472.
