With KDE 2.2.2, Qt-2.3.1 and XFree-4.1.0 it does definitely crash here 
reproducable.
Depending on the font anti aliasing setting either the application or the 
whole X-Server.

If you don't belive me, I can forward you all the bug reports we get for KMail 
:-)
I reassiged some to package xfree in the bug system.
