Why not? It does, but it is Ctrl-Alt-Fx to switch from a
graphical console to another. If KDE is locked up really bad,
try Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, that kills the X-Server (and, of course
KDE). As last resort, read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sysrq.txt,
most distribution kernels are compiled with CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ=yes:
The combo Alt-SysRQ-k may kill X also and 
Alt-SysRQ-s, Alt-SysRQ-u, power off may shut down safely

PS: did anybody already mention, that working as root is dangerous?
