I often have problems remembering which password I associated with any
particular requirement, and I am not happy about storing them unencrypted, so
it's a great help to me.

Use the configuration to change its behaviour. I keep it open all the time
I'm logged in and working. The tray icon makes it easy to close if the
machine is insecure at any time.

Right-click on the tray icon - Configure KWallet. Couldn't be easier.

In most distros you don't even need to start using it unless you choose to.
Properly configured - and that is so simple - it is no nuisance at all and a
great help.

If a distro defaults to using it, then you probably have to go into kcontrol
to manage the wallet. If you enable the tray icon there you would have full
control.
