OK.  I understand somebody like you needs something else, but that's not the 
typical use case.  I recently convinced someone on Kubuntu-users to switch 
from Thurnderbird to Kmail based on Mbox being so much slower to deal with 
than Maildir.  He had, IIRC, about 50,000 messages and was thrilled with 
Maildir.

I think it's a wonderful idea for people who want a database data store to 
have that option, but please don't take away my maildir.  I spent to many 
hours extracting all my mail archives from Outlook's clutches when I migrated 
from WIndows to Linux to ever allow my mail to get sucked into a non-standard 
mail store again.
