kmail's spamassassin filters use the 'sa-learn --no-sync' option by default.
This stores the "learned info" in a separate data file. The option is on by
default to speed up the spam filtering. You can either change it in the
filter (not recommended) or periodically run 'sa-learn --sync' (as a regular
user) from the command line. I do this once a day or whenever I mark a lot
of spam.
While this scheme works very well, it should (1) be pointed out in kmail's
anti-spam wizard so users know how to use it effectively, and (2) there
should be a command in kmail that runs the sync (menu, toolbar?) for users
not comfortable with the command line -- something like, "Sync Spam
Identification Data".
