KMail's error message "Your SMTP server does not support PLAIN. Choose a 
different authentication method." seems to be bogus. Error 450 
means "Requested mail action not taken: mailbox unavailable (e.g., 
mailbox busy)".

Unless it happens very frequently I suggest to ignore the warning. What 
might help is a log of the communication between the servers and kmail. 
Since kmail doesn't provide such a log (I guess we should really change 
this) you'll have to use a tool like ethereal (which doesn't work if 
the communication is encrypted).
