software-life terms) and is no longer supported. Also, KDE 3.3.1 is pretty
darned old as well. You'll want to upgrade to the latest released version of
kpilot which comes with KDE 3.5.3 before we can start trying to figure out
what's going on/wrong. Hopefully, your distro has made it easy for you to
upgrade to the latest packaged versions of KDE/kpilot. =:)

OK, I have upgraded KDE to the latest version, and with it KPilot. The latest
logfile shows:

Version: KPilot 4.6.0 (blivit)
Version: pilot-link 0.11.8
Version: KDE 3.5.3-1.0.el4.kde
Version: Qt 3.3.6

<qt>HotSync Log</qt>

15:51:44 Starting the KPilot daemon ...
15:51:44 Daemon status is `not running'
15:51:45 Pilot device /dev/ttyUSB1 does not exist. Probably it is a
USB device and will appear during a HotSync.
15:51:57 Pilot device /dev/ttyUSB1 is not read-write.
15:51:58 Trying to open device /dev/ttyUSB1...
15:51:58 Could not open device: /dev/ttyUSB1 (will retry)

Now, when I try install-user from the command line, I get an error saying
"Unable to bind to port /dev/tty/USB1"

It does exist when the Treo is connected.

I am wondering if this is a kernel issue, as it works fine with SuSE 10, and
OK with FC5 (kpilot daemon crashes after syncing), both having newer kernels?
