to all who answered to this request: thanks.
meanwhile, I found out that the problem seems to be a broken qt-2.2.3 rpm 
archive -
rpm -ivh did install, but ended up with an error message concerning cpio...
after that, qt-2.2.3 isn't shown up in the rpm database and hence at least 
incomplete.
right now, I've decided to compile qt from source - hope it works...
