Yes the modules load during boot.  I'm running COL 2.2.5 but the built in support
(or lack there of) didn't work so I downloaded the OSS install.  The OSS install
appears to cause my sound card to "turn on", apparent from the sound the speakers
make during the COL 2.2.5 module initializtion on boot.
