Thanks for your help everyone, however, still no luck. I am a little confused
about something. In my /etc/X11/xinit directory there is a xinitrc file, but
nowhere in the system is there a .xinitrc, including /home. This isn't the
first time I've come across the reference and I had hoped it was only a
misprint. I've tried "find * .xinitrc" and nothing turns up, is that
surprising, or is everyone laughing at me now? This is likely the problem,
but I havn't a clue about how to approach it. By the way, I run almost
everything from bash, I figure I'll learn the OS before I worry too much
about competency in the GUI and yes, I tried startkde from the command line..
As I mentioned before, I have run X with fvwm many times without a problem.
It is only after I rpm the packages and make configuration changes that X
won't run. Does this help any of you long distance troubleshooters? I sure
hope so.
