however, right now is not a good time to attempt switching to CVS as 
everything is in flux due to the porting to Qt3. in a month or two things 
should have calmed down to the point of sanity and docs re: building from CVS 
should have been updated with changes that the pre-3.0 branch requires.

3.0 will be largely concerned w/the Qt3 port. perhaps those interested should 
aim at 3.1 as being the "usability release"?
