What is similar? 

They do have parameters as dpi and color/grayscale, but they do not have the 
same interfaces. Printers use cups/lprng/.. and scanners use sane. 

The addition of scanners would make the module more complex and could confuse 
users. If only the scanner part of a multipurpose device is configured, the 
user might wonder why he/she cant print to "modelX" that does show up. (There 
might be situations where only one part of a multipurpose device is 
supported)
