I'd suggest to change the ratio of slider position to value from the 
current linear increase to an exponential increase. 

Such a change would make setting small values always (comparatively) 
easy while toward the top end the slider will more and more behave as 
is when used with big values (which shouldn't matter with big values 
since e.g. 1+/- value differences are much more important at the 
bottom end of the value scale than at the top).
