  The reason for this is the same thought patterns that lay behind the 
decision for the option to keep a copy of Konqueror in memory: It makes it 
seem as if the program loads faster the second time you open it.
  And I agree with you that, if implemented, it should be an option (though 
probably hidden somewhere in the control panel, it's already too large as we 
all know).

  Also, from a programatical point of view, I believe that it will not take 
all that much to get this implemented into KDE, because of DCOP. Programmers 
only have to change the programs to say Close in stead of Quit in the file 
menus (and of course do the programming to fit), and leave the programs 
running per default. That way, with the program links done properly (i.e. 
'dcop konqueror* openBrowserWindow($1)' or somesuch) well, there we go :) 
Just a possibility :)

  But, when this is said, we need a way to show it properly in the task bar. 
Maybe with the program name, shown as if they are minimized?
