In this case we can add an initial choice (the leftmost panel in the picture):

here I also removed the need to click a "SEARCH" button after selecting the 
topics. As soon as you select/deselect a topic, you see the rightmost panel 
updating itself, dynamically. This is very important.

Is there any chance that this will be actually implemented? :-)
