Monitors have limited life time. Really old monitors, not capable to show more 
than 640*480, have almost totally died out by now.  Haven't seen any for 
several years at least. Monitors are aging even if simply kept in warehouse - 
electrolytic capacitors are drying out etc.  It's interesting that some 
monochrome text-only  green-on-black monitors are still alive and 
functioning, probably because they made them very durable these times... 
Later everything was "optimized" and has much shorter life span.
