Ctrl+tab is for switching between desktops ... and that makes sense IMHO, as 
Alt-Tab == Switch Windows... Ctrl+N == New Window, so modifying that makes 
sense; it would be nice to use Alt+N, but that's just asking for a conflict 
due to Alt's use as a text label shortcut (menus, buttons, labels, etc)...

 i actually use Ctrl+Alt+N all the time and i'm not a big person, or 
big-handed for my size.. it could be better, but i'm not sure that Ctrl+Tab 
is the answer.

i think this is because you can make multi-paragraph replies, so Enter is a 
valid key. i've changed it to Enter myself ... unfortunately i have no idea 
what the "normal" IM message usage pattern is (which is obviously different 
than asking what the possible IM message usage pattern is ;)
