Then, imho each screen saver shouls have its own default priority (nice 
number) and cpu-intensive ones (e.g. GL) should come with a warning along the 
lines "It requires a higher amount of computational power". 

Or one can take the approach "let the user set up the priority at first run".. 
:).

I too find the priority bar mostly taking up space (rarely use it as all my 
screens are on lowest possible)
