yes, this is nice and it would deffinitely alleviate the debate. it's a lot
more work to do this, of course, and not every application lends itself to
MDI so it wouldn't become a standard item.
as for evolution being MDI, there is kaplan that will most likely make it into
the 3.2 release that allows multiple email/PIM components to come together.
this isn't done by MDI, however, but via the KParts application merging
technology.

turn off the clipboard syncing in klipper, then. this misfeature is there to
allow those who prefer the broken clipboard of KDE1/2 to keep it. the
clipboard in KDE3 handles these situations properly, as long as you turn off
klipper's legacy mode syncing.
