all of them that use IOSlaves for network communication. they are most useful 
for people on slow and/or broken connections... it allows one to set the 
timeouts so that if you are on a network where latencies tend to be stupidly 
high, you can still use KDE apps by making them "more patient" ... 
conversely, if you are on a high-quality low-latency-to-everywhere network, 
you can set these lower to get quick feedback on broken connections...

the ftp ioslave.. which is used whenever you access ftp via a KDE app (e.g. 
konqueror)

when did "i don't know the purpose of this" become a good argument for "it 
should be removed"? maybe it has a good purpose, and you just don't know 
about it. i'd suggest FIRST discovering what it does and then asking one's 
self if it needs to be clearer in the panel, whether it needs to be 
redesigned, or if it can indeed be removed.

removing GUI altogether may not be the best idea, but perhaps repositioning 
them somewhere less obtrusive, or perhaps providing an actual explanation of 
what those times do in the panel would be a help...
