Hi!

This would be pretty nice. And then I suppose a dialog would come up asking
the user which device (s)he wants to mount there. The only problem: where
does KDE get a list of which devices can be mounted? Do all KDE-compatible
platforms feature fstab files?

This would be a cool place to add loopback-device support as well (including
encryption). :-)

In the current stable KDE this is the way it is done I think. The icons are
put on the desktops by the distribution-specific configuration utilities.
In KDE CVS, KDE automatically puts icons on the desktop when media are
mounted. This results in duplicate icons when both methods are combined.

I figure that ideally, there is some very accessible part of KDE where devices
that are listed in fstab can be mounted in a straight-forward way. Mounting
other devices and loopback-files should also be possible there, but maybe
under an "advanced" tab or similar.

(I'm just tossing ideas here. When we have some idea of where this
functionality should be, I will design UIs and try to code the functionality)
