the patterns addition looks natural, though we are starting to get busy again.
but the pixmap cache. ...... looking at your design i realized why that
setting was bothering me so much:

the pixmap cache setting does not belong here. it belongs on a "Performance
and Tuning" control panel along with things like konqueror's "Minimize Memory
Usage" setting. i'm sure there are these sorts of settings all over KDE, but
because they are scattered:
o users don't find some or all of them
o it is frustrating when you go to tune things for memory/speed and you have
to open up several config dialogs (and remember which ones they are =)

here is a slightly reworked version of your dialog with layouts, etc...

the button problem was due to it being set to grow vertically as well as
horizontally.
