The counterargument is that if someone is used to pressing "Alt-F", down
twice, and "Enter", it might screw them up if they, let's say, opened a new
document and "New" was disabled.  Or what-not.

I don't think this is a strong enough argument to justify NOT doing this, but
it's a consideration that you might want to think about.
