an issue tracking system is, by definition, great for reporting and keeping
track of issues (e.g. the usability reports), but for coordinating active UI
devel i would offer that it would be lacking. each UI file addresses the
totality of bugs in that specific dialog. each screenshot represents and
entire interface (or part of it). it isn't issue centric work, it is
interface centric and it is very revision-oriented.

when hamish was working on the menu shortcuts patch, numerous copies of it
were sent out on the list. this is not very efficient.

we already have a place to discuss changes (right here) but we lack an
effective file sharing mechanism and ticket tracker.

i'd like a place to dump my .ui files, screenshots and patches next to
everyone else's for reference and comparison. e.g. right now it would be
great to have a shared bit of disk space (CVS, web, whatever). each focus
would get its own area (e.g. kicker, background kcm, kmail folder props) and
in the directory for that focus there would be all the files that were a part
of the exploration and final coding.

it would be nice to be able to use this in adjunct to a usability issue
tracker so that one could "pick off" issues as they were addressed without
losing references to those issues that were outstanding.

perhaps nirvana would be a system that let one set up "focuses" and create
task tickets (bugs, queries, etc) within that focus. one could upload files
under a focus and associate any number of tickets to any of the files.
allowing a many-to-many relationship to evolve between tickets, patches,
screenshots, ui files, etc within the focuses...

not much of this sort of work goes on in the open source community so it is
understandable that the tools that would make this easier are not out there
yet. =(
