Haha, well that is half of being someone who cares about ui!  You have to be 
willing to toss out every thing that you see that could possibly make the 
application better and more often then not you will be called crazy for even 
suggesting half of the ideas simply because they didn't want to change 
anything, but in the end when the product is better you get your reward.  A 
lot of the time you may suggesting something that may be "wrong", but the 
other half of the time when you suggest something that seems wrong in the end 
is actually right when given a closer look by everyone.  Just remember that 
when the developer (general case here folks) was coding the application they 
probably gave little if any thought to ui and change is hard so they will 
more likely defend it simply so that they don't have to change.
