As root, run the following (adjust the /opt/sfw paths as needed):

ln -s /opt/sfw/kde/lib/libkdefakes.so.3 /usr/lib/libkdefakes.so.3
chown root /opt/sfw/kde/bin/kcheckpass
chmod u+s /opt/sfw/kde/bin/kcheckpass

We're using NIS+ and we have the same issues.  Can't get out of the screen
lock.
