I'm having this problem with kdebase-3.5.4-2.1.el4 from stable and
kdebase-3.5.4-6.0.el4 from testing. This is on all my Centos 4 boxes. When
using media:/ it will always complain about needing HAL. HAL is installed
and the haldeamon is running as well.

Same for Centos?

Nope, turns out kde-3.5.4 (now) Requires hal >= 0.5, and rhel4 only has
hal-0.4.2. See also:

Argh. :(

So I guess I need to try and upgrade hal, glib2, dbus, and gettext (and any
other dependences) to get KDE mounting to work again.
