On sparc, I don't know, you better ask kde-devel on that topic.
But if you have a PC somewhere, you can boot it with a CD of demolinux
(www.demolinux.org) and use linux without installing anything on the
windows box. Quite interesting if you want to demo linux :-)

There is definitely a lot of things better than twm, kde being only one of
them :-)
