Wicked, this could finally turn into another (or even a few) nice
statistics-article.

I would love to see analysis of long-term development and the effects
of certain changes. Like the git migration Lydia mentioned, or
releases, etc, and what they do with the number of commits, size of
commits, and number of new/leaving/etc contributors.
