Is that beneficial though?  TheKompany was eager to use "KDE technologies," 
but provided nothing of value.  Selling people on, say,  ease of 
development is a long way from selling people on the desire to build 
applications that work like a KDE application should.

I'd argue that it's more beneficial to get on board *users* (both 
individual and collective) who would be willing to pay for development of 
things, which would be added within KDE guidelines, as has been done with 
KMail.
