Which version of KDE are you using? Which distro? (I'm asking know why you're seeing a default of 1 second...). Anyway...

* run this command: "kaddprinterwizard --kde-config"
* locate in "General settings" the "Refresh interval"
* set the interval to a value that suits your needs.
