Could you tell us more about your system:

1) the print system: CUPS, LPRng (check the packages installed, or
   which daemon is running: cupsd, lpd).

2) the connection mode of your printer: TCP, IPP, SMB (connected to
   a Windows client), ...

3) the printer model
