The most easy way to interface to these calendar servers would be to write 
kioslaves, which read/write iCalendar files from/to these servers. This would 
allow to access the servers without any change to KOrganizer.

If this is not sufficient, another option would be to write plugins for 
accessing the calendar on the server. The plugin interface still has to be 
defined, but the architecture of KOrganizer should be ready for this. It 
basically would mean to add subclasses of the Calendar class like the 
CalendarLocal class, which does the access to calendars stored in files.
