Well, we have discussed it a bunch before, so it should be easy this time.

We need a way to for any application to get addresses. An app should be
able to look up a particular person and get his address or addresses in
any message system.
The message systems should be specified using the service type notation
used elsewhere in KDE (like messaging/xmpp, messaging/icq). This notation
will allow KDE apps to match the addresses with plugins or applications
that support the type, and from there we can do other nice things like have
KAddressbook find out online or other status of people in the address
book.
I'm being pretty high-level here. I hope Martijn doesn't mind that I leave
to him explaining the lower-level ideas we've come up with over the months
we've discussed this issue.
