It depends...
The formatted name includes sometimes prefixes like Mr. or Prof. so
  Mr. Andreas Mayer
comes behind
  Karl Schubert

IMHO sorting concerning the real name makes more sence here.

You type in the formatted name and not the normal name?
Why not typing in the normal name and let kaddressbook create the formatted
name automatically?
